WORKFLOW 04 · DEVOPS, LINUX & SRE TROUBLESHOOTING

Redact terminal output & logs before sharing with AI or tickets

Stack traces, CLI output, and SSH logs rarely contain just error codes—they frequently embed AWS access keys, internal IPv4 addresses, user emails, or service codenames. SafeRelay strips those identifiers locally while keeping log structure intact for faster debugging.

PRACTICAL ENGINEERING SCENARIOS

Built for real terminal and incident workflows

How engineers use SafeRelay during live debugging and incident response.

01

Highlight in Terminal

Select stack traces, kubectl logs, Terraform plan errors, or journald output inside Windows Terminal, PowerShell, or WSL.

02

Press Ctrl+Shift+9

SafeRelay runs local pattern detection and Custom Protected Term rules (Ctrl+Alt+G) to replace credentials, emails, and internal IPs.

03

Deliver to Armed AI or Editor

With Desktop Integration enabled, the protected output appears directly inside your armed AI browser tab and/or armed desktop editor.

04

Inspect Before Submitting

Review the sanitized log block in your prompt input or ticket editor before pressing Enter.

Terminal-Aware Delivery (PuTTY & Console Windows)

Standard Windows applications accept Ctrl+V for paste, but many SSH clients and terminal emulators (such as PuTTY or Linux console windows) treat Ctrl+V as a control character rather than paste.

  • When you arm a terminal window with Ctrl+Alt+T, SafeRelay Desktop detects terminal window classes (including PuTTY) and uses terminal-appropriate paste delivery (Shift+Insert).
  • If PuTTY automatically copies text on mouse selection, you can use Ctrl+Alt+V (AppRelay Paste) to run local protection on your existing clipboard and paste into your armed desktop destination.

Why Placeholders Beat Blank Redaction Bars

Replacing every sensitive value with [REDACTED] destroys correlation when debugging multi-line logs. SafeRelay uses indexed placeholders within a relay payload:

  • If two log lines reference the same internal IP or email, consistent tokens like [INTERNAL_IP_1] and [EMAIL_1] let you (and your AI assistant) see whether two events involve the same host or user.
  • Always review the protected output before sending—pattern detection is a fast local safeguard, not an infallible substitute for engineer review.
